Tucson Home Water Treatment Installation

Clean water is easy to take for granted, and Tucson water gives you reasons not to. It arrives hard, chlorinated, and carrying whatever it collected on the way, which shows up as scale in your pipes, spots on your glassware and shorter lives for every appliance that heats it.

Done Rite Services tests the water at your property, then installs filtration, softening and conditioning systems sized for your home rather than for the brochure. We will tell you when a smaller system would do the job.

Home Water Treatment in Tucson

Tucson water is safe to drink and hard enough to be a genuine nuisance. It arrives carrying dissolved calcium and magnesium picked up from the ground it moved through, plus the chlorine added to keep it safe on the way to you.

What that costs you is spread out and easy to miss: scale narrowing pipes, water heaters working harder every year, fixtures that stain, soap that will not lather, and water that tastes of the treatment plant. Treating it at the point it enters the house deals with all of that in one place.

Mineral ScaleWater softener installation at a Tucson home

What Hard Water Is Actually Doing

Scale forms wherever water is heated or moves slowly. Inside a water heater it settles in the base as an insulating layer, so the burner runs longer to reach the same temperature and the unit ages faster while costing more to run. Inside pipework it narrows the bore over years, which shows up as pressure that has quietly dropped.

The visible effects are the smaller half. Spotting on glassware, staining in showers and basins, stiff fixtures, soap and detergent that need more of themselves to work, and dry skin and hair after a shower are all the same minerals in a different place.

Softener UnitTechnician servicing a water softener unit in Tucson

Water Softening, Conditioning and Filtration

These get sold interchangeably and they do not do the same thing. A softener removes calcium and magnesium by ion exchange, swapping them for sodium. It is the most complete answer to hardness and it uses salt to do it.

A conditioner leaves the minerals in the water but changes their form so they no longer bind to surfaces, which controls scale without salt or a drain connection. Filtration is a separate matter entirely: activated carbon and sediment media remove chlorine, taste, odour and particulates, and do nothing at all about hardness. A system that only filters will not stop your scale, and a softener alone will not improve the taste.

Under-Sink ROUnder-sink reverse osmosis system with membrane housing and filter stages

Reverse Osmosis for Drinking Water

Reverse osmosis pushes water through a semi-permeable membrane that removes dissolved solids far beyond what carbon filtration reaches. It is the highest level of purification available domestically, and it is normally fitted under a kitchen sink feeding a dedicated tap.

We usually recommend it alongside whole-home treatment rather than instead of it, because treating every fixture to drinking-water standard is expensive and unnecessary. It is also a sensible starting point for a household that is not ready to commit to a point-of-entry system yet. Whole-house reverse osmosis is available where there is a reason for it.

Point of EntryWhole-home water treatment equipment installed at the main water entry

Choosing Where to Install Your Tucson Water Treatment System

Point of entry means the whole house: every tap, every shower, the water heater and every appliance fed from the main. Point of use means one fixture, normally the kitchen tap. Most homes here benefit from the first for scale and chlorine, with the second added where drinking water matters most.

The right system depends on your water rather than on a catalogue. We test what is actually coming into the property, look at the plumbing layout, the available space and how much water the household uses, then recommend against anything that would be over-specified for it.

Why Home Water Treatment

The Systems We Install

  • Halo 5 whole-home water filtration and conditioning system

    The Halo 5 Whole-Home System

Five stages of filtration and conditioning at the point of entry, using activated carbon and garnet media to reduce chlorine, odours and heavy metals while controlling scale. No salt and no electricity.

The media bed regenerates itself weekly and the backwash leaves cleaner than it arrived, so it is safe around plants and pets. Maintenance-free, with a 10-year warranty.

  • Navien WEC salt-free whole-home water treatment system

    The Navien WEC Salt-Free System

A salt-free point-of-entry system using electro-membrane technology to reduce hardness minerals, chlorine and total dissolved solids, with no tanks and no brine. Sediment and carbon stages polish the water before it reaches your fixtures.

Self-cleaning, with Wi-Fi monitoring for usage, water quality and service intervals. One year on labour, five years on registered parts.

  • Charger SP3 combo water filtration and conditioning system

    The Charger SP3 Combo System

Three stages combining filtration with scale control. The pre-filter takes out sediment and chemicals, the prep tank handles taste, odour, chlorine and heavy metals, and the SP3 tank crystallises hard minerals so scale cannot form.

It reduces existing scale as well as preventing new build-up, with no salt, no chemicals and no backwashing. Up to 5 years on parts and labour, up to 10 on the tanks.

Our Process

How We Handle Your Home Water Treatment

Water TestingGraduated test vials and a handheld water testing meter on a kitchen counter
Step 01

Water Test and Site Check

We test the water at your property rather than working from what is typical for the area, because hardness and mineral content vary noticeably across Tucson. That test decides the system, not a preference for a particular brand.

We also check the plumbing layout, the space at the point of entry and the household's actual usage, then give you the options with their real running costs.

Point of Entry InstallWhole-home treatment tank plumbed in at the main water entry with a bypass valve
Step 02

Installation Day

The work is scheduled in advance so you know when we arrive and how long the water will be off, which is usually a few hours. Our technicians are licensed, bonded and insured.

The system is fitted at the main entry with isolation and a bypass, so it can be serviced later without shutting off the house. We protect the work area and clean up behind ourselves.

Final TestingClear treated water filling a glass at a kitchen faucet after commissioning
Step 03

Commissioning and Walkthrough

Before we finish we test the treated water and confirm the system is performing to specification, so the improvement is measured rather than assumed.

Then we walk you through operating it, what maintenance it needs and when, and what to watch for. You have the numbers from before and after in front of you.

Customer Testimonials

Tucson Trusts Done Rite

“After numerous quotes and inspections, I decided to contract with Done Rite for a new HVAC system on my 114 year old house, which never had a central air conditioning system, only evaporative cooling. I was a bit nervous about drilling holes through plaster and lath ceilings to accommodate new vents and returns. From start to finish, these guys were amazing! This was not a cookie cutter project and they handled it with ease. Big shout out to Marcos and Brandon, etc., and to Jordan for taking the time to explain and suggest a superb system for my home.”

Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Tucson water really have high mineral content?

Yes. Water here commonly carries elevated calcium and magnesium, which is what hardness means. Over time that builds up inside pipes, water heaters and appliances, affects taste, and reduces efficiency. Levels vary noticeably across the metro area, which is why we test at the property rather than assuming a figure for the region.

Do I need a softener or a full treatment system?

A softener addresses hardness and nothing else. If your concern is only scale, that may be enough. If the water also tastes of chlorine, smells, or carries sediment, filtration is doing the work a softener cannot. Most Tucson homes want both, which is why combined systems are the common recommendation here.

Is a salt-free system as effective as a softener?

For scale control, yes, and it works differently. A softener removes hardness minerals by ion exchange. A salt-free conditioner leaves them in the water but changes their form so they cannot bind to surfaces. If your goal is stopping scale, both achieve it. If you specifically want the slippery feel of softened water for bathing and laundry, only ion exchange gives you that.

Will treated water taste better?

Noticeably, yes, when the system includes carbon filtration. Most of what people dislike about tap water is chlorine, and carbon removes it. Reverse osmosis goes further and takes out dissolved solids as well, which is why it is normally fitted for drinking and cooking water rather than for the whole house.

How much maintenance do these systems need?

It depends on the type. Salt-based softeners need salt topped up and periodic checks. The salt-free systems we install are largely maintenance-free, with media that regenerates automatically or filter stages changed on a schedule we set out at handover. Reverse osmosis needs filter and membrane changes at defined intervals. You get the schedule in writing at the walkthrough.

Will a treatment system make my water heater last longer?

It should. Sediment and scale settling in the base of a tank insulate the burner from the water above it, so the unit runs longer for the same result and the tank is under more stress. Controlling scale at the point of entry removes the main cause of that, which is one of the more measurable returns on a system.
